MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear Members and Friends

Impact of Coronavirus on Australia-Taiwan Business Council Ltd (ATBC)

The swiftness and scale of the impact of coronavirus on business and our daily lives is unprecedented.  We are in extraordinary times.

With the restrictions on movement of people, gatherings and social distance, it is unfortunate that a number of gatherings and events that the ATBC was planning to convene have now been placed in suspense until restrictions are eased and normality returns.  While planning has started for the annual 34th Joint Conference, which is scheduled to be in held Taiwan in late August, with the restrictions in place and the significant on-going issues faced by business and government the Conference event will need to kept under review.

Out of adversity comes new opportunities, and the impact of the coronavirus has brought into stark focus the need to diversify Australia’s dependency away from China.  Taiwan is, and remains, a logical choice as part of any diversification strategy.

The ATBC remains committed to its mission of promoting and deepening the bilateral business relationship between Australia and Taiwan, and we look for to hosting new and more regular events for our Members when these difficult times pass.

I want to thank you for your continued support for the ATBC and I wish my wish that you, your loved ones and your businesses remain strong and resilient through these challenging times.

Warm regards,

John Toigo
